Cheney a PlameGate Target?

The buzz earlier was that Fitzgerald was going after Scooter Libby… however… PoliticalWire has it from the Huffington Post that Cheney is now the target:
The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg are working on stories that point to Vice President Dick Cheney as the target of special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald’s investigation into the leaking of CIA operative Valerie Plame’s name.
Let it be true… let it be true…

Watching Hardball last night, I tended to agree with Chris Mathews’ comments that it goes much higher than Rove & Libby. Mathews suggested that the way D.C., and this WH in particular, works is that the underlings are always directed to carry out the dirty work in a way their superiors escape culpability. That this may drag down Cheney or even Bush himself is totally in the realm of possibility at this point. The real question is, will the Republican House have the kahunas to begin impeachment proceedings against Cheney (or Bush) if the broader conspiracy can be proven?
When we said just about sex, they said a higher morality. We say higher illegality and immorality to lie to go to war, and that is now proven, but they’ll minimize this as sloppy news and loose lips to a reporter. The directive hasn’t been, and don’t know if the investigation goes to the Office and Special Plans, the Niger forgery, and more.
But if both the prosector and GOP have the kahunas, the will to do this, interesting and in the realm of cause and effect. We are talking about a whole party, K Street power, the media, going with doing the right thing before the 2006 elections, and side-stepping the plan for permanent power?
