Casey Bypasses Santorum in Fund-Raising

by Pamela Leavey

A sign of the times… and a sign of the fall of Rick (man on dog) Santorum…

Republican Sen. Rick Santorum’s leading Democratic challenger (Bob Casey) raised thousands more than the incumbent in the three-month quarter that ended Friday.

Campaign spokesman John Brabender said Santorum lost about $1 million in contributions by canceling fundraisers after Hurricane Katrina.

Santorum, the No. 3 Senate Republican, raised more than $1.7 million for the period, while Pennsylvania Treasurer Bob Casey Jr. raised more than $2 million, their respective campaign spokesmen said Monday.

Casey is the son of a popular late governor. The race is expected to be one of the nation’s most competitive in 2006.

Santorum, a two-term incumbent, has about $6.6 million cash on hand, while Casey has about $3 million, their campaigns said.

On Thursday, the Connecticut-based Quinnipiac University poll had Santorum lagging 18 points behind Casey.

We won’t be sorry to see Rick go…

  1. This makes my heart sing, but Casey has to raise a lot more money. I live in PA and I can see it coming. Rick is just going to inundate us with mud slinging television ads. There is a lot of ammunition that Bob Casey can use; however he is going to have to have lot money to match those ads. I just read today that U2 is giving a fundraising concert for Santorum in Philly. A 1,000.00 a ticket. At first I thought it was a joke, but it appears to be true.

Get out – U2 raising money for Santorum. I will never listen to them again. Do you have a link?

  3. Yeah, I really find that hard to believe. Bono was a big supporter of JK’s. Although he’s gotten to know a lot of politicians while lobbying to help the world’s poor and AIDS, I find it very hard to believe he would support, let alone assist, Senator Man on Dog Sex in ’06.

  4. I just posted about this – because I am pissed… Newsmax had the story.

  5. CNN just said tha U2 was not supporting or having a concert for him was a mistake He’s there in Philly for a public concert its a Lie

Got it – posted the statement from DATA on behalf of Bono above.

  7. I heard on the Bill Maher show (HBO) that the new Supreme Court Justice is a homosexual. Is this true? I suspect that it may be true because Bill Maher sticks to the truth.
