Kerry & McCain to Debate Iraq on ‘Meet The Press’
by Pamela LeaveyJohn Kerry and John McCain will be on “Meet The Press’ Sunday morning to debate the Iraq War:
Exclusive! Senators John Kerry (D-MA) & John McCain (R-AZ) debate the war in Iraq. How will the Petraeus report affect U.S. policy? We’ll discuss the future of the War with two key senators and Vietnam veterans — only on “Meet the Press.”
This is don’t miss Sunday morning TV! Last Sunday, Kerry and McCain were on ‘This Week’, but the show was not in a debate format, Kerry’s interview followed McCain’s and Kerry was able to wipe the floor with McCain’s ’stay the course’ stance on Iraq. Before Kerry decided not to run in ‘08, I thought the perfect face-off for ‘08 was perhaps John Kerry and John McCain. McCain’s candidacy has fallen flat now, and as for John Kerry, he’s still leading the charge on ending the war in Iraq.
The Blue State has the full Sunday line-up here which includes General Wesley Clark and Senator Chris Dodd on “CNN Late Edition”. Clark endorsed Hillary Clinton on Saturday.
Let’s hope the debate doesn’t get tied up on the MoveOn ad kerfluffle and McCain’s comments on Saturday that MoveOn “ought to be thrown out of this country.” McCain has taken to carrying “a blown-up, laminated poster of the MoveOn ad to his campaign stops” proving he has an issue with the First Amendment: Freedom of Speech. We live in a country, last I checked, that people and organizations don’t get thrown out of the country, for expressing their views.

All I can say is WOW! Kerry! WOW! He did an excellent job and I must say that I “almost” feel sorry for McCain. He looks like one lost puppy. He truly looks clueless. Notice him trying to use those usual Repub talking points similar to “cut & run”, etc. Kerry stomped him down at every turn.
It’s a shame that McCain sold his soul a while ago to this administration and is too far to recover it. He is forced to play this dishonorable role. He is left with arguments that have not sound reason. He looks tired and not someone that will move the country forward. Kerry had a great line about Dems having decisions that will move the country “..Forward..” that its not about surrender.
Kerry handled it with class – AS USUAL! Really, really wish he has a visible role in the ‘08 Dem administration (since we did not get the honor of having him as President).
MSNBC will be showing another airing of Meet the Press this evening in case some of you missed it. I did miss the first 10 minutes.
Yup, Sen. Kerry mopped the floor with McCain, but, as DAS said, he did it, as usual, with class. Total class act.
This will be re-aired on MSNBC at 10 pm tonight (Sunday) and 1 am Monday (at least ET. . ). It also is already available as video on the Meet the Press website.
My two favorite lines:
“We need to surge the diplomacy, not the troops”
and
(referred to by DAS), talking about Dem push for withdrawal “That’s not walking away, that’s walking forward”
Fantastic.
For more than a year I thought Kerry should have challenged McCain to a debate. Even though he’s not running, he can still lead the charge against the war.
I’m just getting the transcript up after a day out shopping with my daughter for last minute college stuff… but I wanted to note here that this little segment was priceless:
What a putz McCain is… he doesn’t even get it when Kerry points out he’s contradicting himself.
I thought JK would be prepared, but he was more than prepared – he was fantastic! I turned to my wife, and told her that if I didn’t know any better, I’d say JK sat through murder boards yesterday (that, are he’s just darn good).
McCain was a fish out of water. If every straw-man in America could vote, McCain would be the next President of the United States.
Whoever is the next GOP candidate is, I think they will have to campaign like an independent; not mention Bush (to a certain extent, they are Republicans after all), and not mention the Republican Party. This candidate will have to campaign on their own personality, not the party platform.
My guess, Fred Thompson will get the nomination.
I tried to find a way to write McCain on my ballet in 2000, but voted for Kerry. I am so surprised by McCain now. Where has our straight talker gone? What has happened to him? All I can think happened is maybe he and Bush made some kind of agreement in 2004. Something like McCain help Bush, and Bush would help McCain in 2008. I can’t believe that McCain believes what he is saying. He’s lost his conviction.
Kerry was great in the debate. I used to hope he would not talk so long and get to the point. He did that on Sunday.
John Kerry was absolutely right on targetin this debate. McCain is way off base, just like Bush.
If John Kerry was President today we would not be in this mess in Iraq and around the world.
How many people think we would better off if JK was President?
I know I do!
