LIVE EARTH: Al Gore Slams Global Warming Doubters
by Pamela Leavey
Opening the Washington D.C. leg of the worldwide LIVE EARTH concerts today, Al Gore took a swipe at global warming doubters. The Washington D.C. concert war a “last-minute addition to the global event months after organizers failed to find a space on the US capital’s National Mall” due to the fact that some Republican lawmakers attepted to block the bid to hold the concert on the National Mall. The National Museum of the American Indian came through and “offered its venue on the Mall for the show, which featured the Native American band Blues Nation and an acoustic performance from country music stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.”
Gore said today, “Some who don’t understand what is now at stake tried to stop this event on the Mall,” in a slam directed at members of “President George W. Bush’s Republican party.”
“But here we are,” he said as an image of a bright Earth shined behind him. “And it wasn’t the cavalry who came to our rescue, it was the American Indian.”
AP News noted that LIVE EARTH “started in Asia with an ancient Aboriginal instrument, toured through rehashed 1970s rock, 1980s pop and laid-back surfer music, and touched the future with a holographic appearance by Al Gore.”
The series rolls west through Saturday, from Sydney to Tokyo, Shanghai, Johannesburg, Hamburg, London, Rio de Janeiro, New Jersey and Washington.
Organizers were predicting live broadcasts on cable television and the Internet could reach up to 2 billion people.
Michelle Malkin of course wasted no time last night dissing the Aboriginal performers who opened the Australian concert, proving her glaring biogtry once again.
Performer John Mayer blogged (on the HuffPo and JohnMayer.com) about his hope and excitement revolving around LIVE EARTH, saying that he is “starting to feel the first ripples of what could become a revolution.”
Cookie Jill is “listening/bloggin” over at Skippy.
USA Today has “Live Earth dispatches from around the world” and the N.Y. Times reports, “Stars Join Their Voices to Support Live Earth.”
*Note: The “ancient Aboriginal instrument” noted by AP News is a “Didgeridoo.”

There is no possibility of this being negative in any way. It’s amazing that some people are so twisted that they can’t just accept this for whatever it is, and ignore it if it doesn’t appeal to them. People around the planet finding some element of commonality is threatening how? I’m not sure why, but I picture people like that as being so afraid of life and the world around them that they need to have religion to use as a crutch for getting out of bed in the morning.
