Oh Good Gracious

by Pamela Leavey

Andrew Sullivan thinks Hillary Clinton has no feminist creds… Perhaps he’s channeling Chris Matthews or he just came up with this sexist screed on his own:

Hillary Clinton had a chance to pioneer feminism. But she preferred her own ambition to her alleged principles, and when it really came down to it, she deferred to a man. Bill came first, however brutally he humiliated and used her. But she knew her place – and coped by trying to leverage it for more power.

What a load of conservative she’s a “good little woman” who “knows her place” crap! Women make choices, just like men do. Hillary has more than proven she’s her own woman.

The sexism appears to be running rampant these days as Taylor Marsh and Michael J.W. Stickings point out. Hillary has got some powerful women (and men) backing her already and evidently that’s making the conservative men folk nervous.

  1. There are lots of ways to get to the top in life. Down here at my level I’m so far from there that I understand that it mostly makes more sense for me not to criticize the approach that successful people used to become successful. What they want to do with their acclaim in the future, however, is a whole different story.

And while I’m starting to see a growing number of things in the “vision” of Sen. Clinton that concern me, none of that has to do with the quality of her “feminist” credentials. Women, families, and even men for that matter are not going to have to worry about her heading an administration that doesn’t know where the 1950′s ended and the present world begins. She might be prone to going a little Maggie TRhatcher on us, but I’m not sure that she would do even that if left to her own devices.

  2. Whether or not sexism is running rampant is appears as the all the candidates realize the importance of women this election.

Almost, if not all, of the candidates have created groups to garner womens votes, even the more conservative ones, because they know that women voters outnumber men. Hillary has a good shot because women can identify with her, whether or not she is feminist.
