And The Oscar Goes To: ‘An Inconvenient Truth’!
by Pamela LeaveyCongratulations to Al Gore and director Davis Guggenheim for their win tonight at the Oscars for ‘An Inconvenient Truth’!
Accepting the Oscar, Gore said, “My fellow Americans, people all over the world — we need to solve the climate crisis. It’s not a political issue. It’s a moral issue. We have everything we need to get started with the possible exception of the will to act. That’s a renewable resource. Let’s renew it.” Think Progress has the video here.
Earlier tonight, Al Gore took to the stage with Leonardo DiCaprio to announce that the Oscars had gone green this year. Poking some fun at the speculation that Gore might make an announcement of political nature tonight DiCaprio fished around for Gore to “some kind of major announcement tonight.” At the end of their spiel about the Oscars going green, DiCaprio needled Gore again and Gore responded, “With a billion people watching, it’s as good a time as any,” and he pulled out a speech and started to “to formally announce” before the orchestra cut him off and he and DiCaprio walked off the stage. It was great schtick from the former VP! HotAir has the video here and Think Progress has the full text of Gore and DiCaprio and the video.
UPDATE: Congratulations to Melissa Etheridge for winning the Oscar for the Best Song, for her song “I Need to Wake Up” from the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.”

This is the second time that Gore won something incredibly major. At least this time around, no one can steal his victory!
I missed the first part, but I did catch the part when he won. The “My fellow Americans” comment was funny. I wonder how many neocon heads almost exploded at that time.

You’re right – they can’t steal this victory from him! It was sweet!
