More McCain
by Pamela LeaveyMore waffles and “interesting” talk from John McCain today…
John McCain is for the escalation of Bush’s “mismanaged” war. Confused? Don’t be. McCain is trying to distance himself from Bush’s failed policy while kissing up to former Bush donors.
While campaigning in South Carolina today, McCain said that “Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld will be remembered as one of the worst in history,” but last year when Rummy stepped down McCain said, “While Secretary Rumsfeld and I have had our differences, he deserves Americans’ respect and gratitude for his many years of public service.” Go figure…
Roger Simon, traveling with McCain notes on Politico today that McCain recognizes that if things get worse in Iraq, he’s toast…
“If we are starting to show success (in Iraq), then obviously the fact that I supported (the war) is good,” McCain said. “But if it continues to deteriorate, then it’s (going to be) hard.”
This one really grabbed me from Simon’s piece… Poor John McCain: “I feel,” he said, “like Zsa Zsa Gabor’s fifth husband, who said on their wedding night, ‘I know what to do; I just don’t know how to make it interesting.’ ”
That’s quite an analogy from a presidential wannabe.
