Al Gore and Rush Limbaugh Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

by Pamela Leavey

Al Gore has been nominated for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. A Norwegian lawmaker said Thursday that Gore was nominated “for his wide-reaching efforts to draw the world’s attention to the dangers of global warming.”

A prerequisite for winning the Nobel Peace Prize is making a difference, and Al Gore has made a difference,” Conservative Member of Parliament Boerge Brende, a former minister of environment and then of trade, told The Associated Press.

Brende said he joined political opponent Heidi Soerensen of the Socialist Left Party to nominate Gore as well as Canadian Inuit activist Sheila Watt-Cloutier before the nomination deadline expired Thursday.

“Al Gore, like no other, has put climate change on the agenda. Gore uses his position to get politicians to understand, while Sheila works from the ground up,” Brende said.

AP News reports that “Norwegian lawmakers are among the thousands of people and groups with rights to nominate Nobel candidates.” Others with right to nominate “include members of national governments, past laureates, members of the awards committee and its staff, and many university professors.”

I’m not sure how the conservative Landmark Legal Foundation qualifies on the list of nominating bodies, but not to be outdone by Al Gore’s nomination, they’ve stepped up and nominated Rush Limbaugh for the Nobel Peace Prize as well. Just what are Limbaugh’s qualifications, you might ask? Why promoting world peace with Viagra, of course.

  1. See a tongue-in-cheek visual of Rush “rising” to the occasion…here:

  2. I can’t believe you could mention Rush’s name in anything connected with Al Gore. Just had to ruin it for me. So cool to see Al Gore nominated for the Nobel…wait…what’s this…Rush Limbaugh???…what’s he got to do with… See what I mean.

  3. You’ve got to be kidding me??!! Limburger for peace???!! I hope the committee scoffs at this nomination and tosses it in the trash where it and Limburger belong.
As for Mr Gore, HE deserves to be nominated and in my opinion deserves to win. Limburger is not nearly in the same league as Mr. Gore and other past and present nominees. It’s typical for the rethugs to try to steal the thunder of a good man.

  4. Awesome for Al. Now, maybe that will get him a wider base to launch a presidential campaign?? 8) ;)

  5. Rush Limbaugh is not an actual nominee for the Peace prize, but Al Gore is. Being nominated by random people doesn’t make you a nominee, any more than plastering “Me for President” posters makes you a presidential candidate. See link below for rules on nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize:

In other words, the headline above would have been more accurate if it said it this way:
