A New Low for Bush
by Pamela LeaveyState Of The Union address eve polls look might bleak for Bush. A new CBS poll shows that Bush’s “overall approval rating has fallen to just 28 percent, a new low, while more than twice as many (64 percent) disapprove of the way he’s handling his job.”
Two-thirds of Americans remain opposed to the president’s plan for sending more than 20,000 additional U.S. troops to Iraq — roughly the same number as after Mr. Bush announced the plan. And 72 percent believe he should seek congressional approval for the troop increase.
However, the poll finds more Americans might back the president’s plan if they were convinced it would assure U.S. success in Iraq.
CBS also notes that many of the hearts and minds Bush would like to woo to support his Iraq plan with tomorrow night’s SOTU address probably won’t even bother to watch…
The president’s nationally televised message to Congress may not even reach many of those whose minds he would like to change. Less than half the public says it’s very likely to watch the speech — and that answer comes more from those who already support him.
I guess it’s like watching old re-runs… been there — done that — seen and heard it all before. Why bother watching? Most Americans feel Bush doesn’t share their priorites so they’ll tune out…
DOES BUSH SHARE YOUR PRIORITIES?
Yes 28%
No 69%

Polls disgracefully low on the eve of the big speech in front of Dem controlled Congress and …. hello terror tape.
I’m not conspiracy theorist but this timing is too much. Every major speech, election, or problem for this pack is headed off with a terror tape (of course one that appears out of no where). Truly amazing! And this one is a warning by the #2 wanted that the surge will bring more death to America. Terror or no terror tape, America must do what’s right for our troops and our country and bring the troops home.
OK, no Federal Reserve comments this time here…
Let’s look at the “Tale of the Tape”.
Bush ratings worst EVER.
Initial info is that he will propose changes to Health Care that will be draconian in reality, while seemigly sugar-coated with that good ‘ole Republican ‘benevolence’.
“Wrong Way Corrigan” strikes again!
100% WRONG 100% of the time.
Normally, I wouldn’t even pay attention to the Bush show, but I am absolutely enthralled at the prospect of the IDIOT leaving a joint session of Congress in stunned silence at his complete and total disconnect with the populace.
Perhaps he will even earn a resounding “BOO”!
At the very least, expect a less-than-enthusiastic reception, even amongst his own party members.
Make no mistake, this will be entertaining.
The unfortunate part is that it will represent reality in 2007.
Who could have ever imagined that we would be in a position to try to regain the respect of the World Community after we were so severely damaged on 9/11/01?
It is inconceivable that we would be now where we are.
No, I will not miss this State of the Union.
It is self evident. Nuff said.
Tom
I will watch because I want to see Nancy Pelosi sitting up there behind him!
As for the “terra-tape”, I think America is pretty immune to them by now. Hardly a blip registered on the evening news. Yawn.
Remember that “The Decider” has repeatedly said that he has no confidence in polls and essentially doesn’t believe in them. He continues to confuse the meaning of “steadfast” with the meaning of “stuborn”.
By now we should all realize that this joke of a president never lets his concepts to be confused by reality!
Ginny in WI,
I had the same thought when reading a comment about that in an article. Maybe I will just put the Mute on!! And, as ironxl84 points out, it could be entertaining to watch the lack of reaction to the speech. I’ve had visions of a stony silence with none of the usual interuptions for applause or standing ovations (My fantasies are really and truly not based in reality, however, I know it
)
The other BIG coincidental blow today was Fitzgerald’s opening statement in the Libbey trial. Thank The Force they seated the jury and this came out TODAY. Cheney was the mastermind and the WH knew about the coverup.
Note to Tom,
Decision on the Fed issue noted and appreciated. I am trying to get a really good understanding of the whole issue (as a part of the Military-Industrial-Financial-Covert Intelligence-Congresional complex) in order to write something (eventually) that will expose the camoflaged 5 headed beast to more people. I started with “The Creature from Jekyll Island” among others. He has some good stuff but also some ideological/dated misinterpretation IMO. Any other reputable sources you would recommend?
