Bush’s Legacy: U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq Pass 9/11 Toll
by Pamela LeaveyThere’s nothing humorous about the legacy that George W. Bush will leave behind, as the news comes on Christmas night from Iraq that the “U.S. military death toll in Iraq has reached 2,974, one more than the number of deaths in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the United States.”
The U.S. military announced the deaths of two soldiers in a bomb explosion southwest of Baghdad on Monday.
The deaths raised the number of troops killed to 2,974 since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003. The Sept. 11, 2001, attacks claimed 2,973 victims in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
When will it end?? When??
Opponents of Bush have long criticized him for raising the 9/11 attacks as a justification for the Iraq war — the long and unjustified war, that has now claimed more lives than 9/11. This will be the legacy of George W. Bush, this will be what history writes about the president who lied to justify this unjust war.
Bring them home. While America despairs Bush’s ill-gotten war, Bush sleeps tightly every night, despair, with “his presidential armor” seeming “firmly intact.”
Mr. Bush addressed the sleep issue in a recent interview with People magazine, saying, āIām sleeping a lot better than people would assume.ā
Sadly, Bush still believes he is just and Bush apologists follow blindly. What will it take? 2,974 more American lives shed on foreign soil for a lie?

What a freak’n mess.
One more ’surge’ for the road? Remember, we had a mini surge last summer and the only thing we discovered was the Iraqis wouldn’t take the lead.
There is no winning, there is no losing there is only disengagement with as little chaos as possible. How much more in lives and treasure will it take before shrub or those around him figure that out?
I think the only way to stop the killing is to impeach this idiot!
I pretty much agree with the comment made by blogger elmercreek. I truly feel that this president’s legacy will be to have been the: most stubborn, ill informed, and weakest president we have ever had. He feels that he was elected King as witnessed by his statement, “I am the decider”. I think its also a little scary when he indicates that his policy decisions are based on direct conversations with God. When asked if he had consulted with his father, Bush Sr., before his pre-emptive invasion if Iraq he replied,”No I didn’t consult with my father, I consulted with a higher Father.” So far be it for us, mere mortals, to question the word of God thru his spokesman on earth King George II. This arrogant President clearly has lost cite that he was not given a national mandate either in the tainted election of 2000 or the one of 2004. Following his questionable 2000 win Bush said, “that it was God’s will that made him President”. Gosh, I always thought it was the will of Florida’s Katherine Harris and the U.S. Supreme Court who failed to allow the votes to be accurately counted. He also would have lost the 2004 election if it was not for the antiquated electoral college system, which should be done away with. Senator Kerry received a far greater portion of the popular vote than Bush but lost anyway. The electoral college makes by vote here in little Delaware far less significant than a person voting in New York. Parts of his legacy will include:
1. The botched war in Iraq
2. His continued denial of global warming
3. His unwarranted intervention in the Terry
Shivo case.
4. His unwillingness to adhere to the
historical principal of the seperation of
church and state.
5. His cutting of funds to world wide public
health centers who don’t support his
belief that abstinence is the ONLY means
of birth control.
6. His faith based threat to amend the
Constitution to define marriage as being
only between a man and a woman. Most all
admendments extend rights to the people,
but his would have served to restrict
rights.
7. His absolute total homage to big businnes
and industry. His administration has
blocked attempts to lower dangerious
industial emissions. This would have cost
his buddies some money. So instead, here
in Delaware, we have an ever rising cancer
rate due to emissions of such plants as,
Sun Oil, DuPont etc.
The list could go on forever. The bottom line is that this inept president may well go down as the worst of all 43!!!
It must be nice to not live in reality. Bush is not the smartest man to walk the face of the earth, but at least he is doing somthing about it. You liberal cowards would have us sit back and appease every psycotic dictator and feed your fellow Americans to the wolves. But do not fear liberals while you stab America in the back and all it stands for young Americans such has myself will fight for your freedom.
Has a former Marine Iraqui war vet it is awsome to know that you liberals will fight harder for terrorists “rights” than your own country. Bush’s legacy? Although I personally do not like him his stance on the war will leave him a great legacy, if he continues to strive to WIN. I would hate to have had pessimists like yourselves during world war two. Violence does not respect peace. The Chamberlin’s of the world never solved anything, count the death toll all you want, if you liberals get your way you can add a few zeros on to that number, only it will be American civilians.
Buzz,
I have this philosophy that W is SO bad, not only would it take a long time for anyone to get close to his record, the American Voters may actually wake up to the idea that they need to PAY ATTENTION to the presidential campaign. Even look things up for themselves when they don’t hear or understand a candidates position on a subject.
So we might learn how to get better candidates running and nominated. And then we could start voting for the best of those- instead of the most charismatic, etc.
rpropaganda,
Very good illustration of not living in reality. We have something close to 800 military bases around the world. We have been fostering war and violence in many countries for over a century. People like you think that the ‘blowback’ (CIA term for the backlash against covert operations) is not because of what WE did to earn it. It’s those dangerous foreigners who resort to violence for ‘no’ reason.
Liberals respect those people as other human beings; who have just as much right to their own rule, sovereignty and peaceful pursuit of economic security as we do.
The Dulles’ (John and Allen) use of covert intelligence operations and secret military enforcement of our geopolitical goals has undermined our presidents’ and true statesmen’s efforts to advance peace and justice through diplomacy.
All in our names, and with our unaccounted tax money.
Get some knowledge about these aspects of American history and foreign policy before you trust just your experience in the military. In case you haven’t noticed, a lot more Liberals in Congress have actually SERVED in a war or in the military than the GOP.
Some of our regulars (Buzz, Battlebob, and Donnie) have served also. Others have ties to service members. It is not unusual that some who served come to conclusions like yours, while others see the larger perspective and come to counter-intuitive conclusions.
Ultimately, the fall of America (and unnecessary deaths of citizens) will not be due to our efforts to bring peace to the world. It will be the oft repeated mistakes of every empire in history – taken to new depths.
Some of us would like to think America is wiser than that.
Which we are sadly aware is much like living in another reality.
