Bush Hits New Low After the ‘Thumpin’

by Pamela Leavey

Feeling Blue?” NEWSWEEK asks. Bush didn’t see it coming… living in his perpetual ‘State of Denial’ and now the American public has spoken at the voting booths. In the wake of the upset at the polls that shifted power from the party of corruption, Bush offered up Rummy as a the sacrificial lamb, but even that was not enough to save him from the after effects of the ‘thumpin’ as the most recent NEWSWEEK Poll shows that Bush’s approval rating is yet again, dumpin’.

And what did the president get for listening to the voice of the American people? The worst approval rating of his presidency…

President Bush’s job approval rating has fallen to just 31 percent, according to the new NEWSWEEK Poll.

Worst of all, most Americans are writing off the rest of Bush’s presidency; two-thirds (66 percent) believe he will be unable to get much done, up from 56 percent in a mid-October poll; only 32 percent believe he can be effective. That’s unfortunate since 63 percent of Americans say they’re dissatisfied with the way things are going in the country; just 29 percent are satisfied, reports the poll of 1,006 adults conducted Thursday and Friday nights.

A list of factors that may have contributed to the Democrats’ success:

  • 85 percent of Americans said the “major reason” was disapproval of the administration’s handling of the war in Iraq,
  • 71 percent said disapproval of Bush’s overall job performance,
  • 67 percent cited dissatisfaction with how Republicans have handled government spending and the deficit,
  • 63 percent said disapproval of the overall performance of Republicans in Congress,
  • 61 percent said Democrats’ ideas and proposals for changing course in Iraq.

    1. Toles’ take on ‘the thumpin’

    2. I feel so sorry for poor George, that my heart is breaking. Why should anyone feel sorry for this president who has ruled for 6.5 years like he was a dictator.
The 2000 election was stolen by the Supreme Court and Katherine Harris. If all the votes has been allowed to be counted the President would have been Al Gore!!
Then in the 2004 presidential election, Senator John Kerry was obiously the best qualified. He won all three televised debates and also won the majority of the national votes cast!! The electoral college needs to be done away with. A vote of a person in small state like mine, Delaware, should count as much as a person’s from New York.
This president has ruled as if he was an emperor!! He even has gone on record as saying that it was God’s devine providence that made him president. This is kind of like the “divine right of kings” notion that went out when we defeated the first King George in the Revolutionary War.
This President in 2000 promised to be a “great uniter not a great divider”, he has been anything but!! He has ruled for the past 6.5 years like he had a clear mandate from the electorate, when in accutality he won both times by the skin of his teeth! The only unfortunate thing is that the thumping he took on Tuesday didn’t come sooner. I feel his lasting legacy will to have been one of, if not the worst,
most secretive, presidents since 1900. Who ever wins in 2008, we have nowher to go but up!!

    3. William,

Bush “won both times by the skin of his teeth!”? We thought he won by Harris working magic on the Florida vote and the Supreme Court giving W his crown, followed by Blackwell annointing his feet! ;)

No arguements on worst president ever – some of us hope that will be because his legacy will include being the example of what not to fall for in elections over the next several centuries.

I have a question in the back of my mind that is likely to be answered in time. What kind of mental/psyche disorders does he have? Kind of like Ronnie developing Alzheimers. No wonder he ‘couldn’t recall’ !!!
