No One Worked Harder to Bring About a National Democratic Victory than John Kerry

by Pamela Leavey

As the news keeps pouring in tonight about Democratic Victories across the country, I want to take a moment and remind readers that no one has worked harder to bring about a national victory for the Democratic Party than John Kerry:

National Journal reported yesterday that Kerry had stumped for more candidates this year than any other Democrat — a whopping 170, according to his office.

Kerry stepped back from the campaign trail last week, after “His “botched joke” about kids who don’t study hard getting stuck in Iraq gave the Republicans ammunition at a time when they were running out of it.”

Peter S. Canellos, Boston Globe Columnist reported today that Kerry “either misjudged the situation or let his anger get the better of him.” My take is a little different than Canellos — certain members of the Democratic Party got nervous, and maybe couldn’t muster the righteous anger that Kerry had and he was sidelined out of fear and perhaps in the case of at least one Democratic Senator — her own possible political gain. The victories tonight clearly show that Democrats — voters across the country are mad as hell. Kudos to John Kerry for pumping up that righteous anger at a time when other’s couldn’t.

Canellos also is quick to point out that Kerry isn’t the only potential ‘08 candidate with “groan-inducing quotes” — “Hillary Clinton has issued her own share of groan-inducing quotes, starting with a crack about not wanting to stay home and bake cookies,” and former “Vice President Al Gore, the party’s 2000 presidential nominee, was treated roughly by the Republicans, and John Edwards was fairly toothless as Kerry’s running mate in 2004.”

Here’s the bottom-line in my book, Kerry helped propell many of tonight’s winners. He fed their campaigns with cash and he took to the road all across the country, when others were more concerned about their own races, dropping buckets of cash for a blow-out win in an almost guaranteed re-election. Among the Kerry endorsed winners tonight, I count Bob Casey, Sherrod Brown, Joe Sestak, Deval Patrick, Ted Strickland, Bob Menendez, Paul Hodes, Jennifer Granholm, Ed Perlmutter…

Many thanks to John Kerry from all the folks here at The Democratic Daily, for all you have done for the Democratic Party in the 2006 mid-term elections.

  1. John Kerry will never be the one who can talk up a storm by addressing nothing. He is the real politician who can talk up a country. Latest incident was just a price to pay for standing up and talking truth to power, things democrats rather not do. People understand him but they are nervous to express it. There is no leading voice. I hope he’ll make the decision to run or not to run near the end of next year. Because until he has shown his abilities to the country, his 08 is difficult. Voters are giving democrats a second chance but the message is “Rescue us not Infighting for 08″. Kerry is a mutant, a democrat with a republican edge-competitiveness. Stay mutant and he may see a more behaved and more reasonable republican minority than democrat majority. Whoever can bring out the best of both parties, it is Kerry. This was the biggest revenge of the time. Works of 18 months at last, paid off. Turning a fantasy at the beginning to a reality at the end. All the belittlings and humiliations from both sides and beyond didn’t stop John Kerry. He has done it all, from talking to an empty room, to the full-grown House and Senate and Governor races, to the behind-the-scene GOTV. A winner who let others steal the spotlights. But again, until he has proven his strength and leadership to the country in the next year, 08 is not going to be easy. Let the so-called experts play God with his future all they want (like it matters), Presidency is a job to serve not to be served. The country needs a new direction not fame and fortune.

  2. I am not sure about the Dems, but I guarantee the Repubs will not remember 2006 for a botched joke, they’ll remember how their party (and Bush in particular) botched the election.

John Kerry or Nancy Pelosi may not be the most hated people in DC by the GOP at the moment. I’ll place a bet that the hottest shoes for the GOP in the next several months will be GWB and Karl Rove. The “November Surprise” was that their wasn’t any surprise, and pundits will waste no time hatcheting the GOP leadership for that.

  3. I wonder if any of these winners are going to call him up and thank him. Claire McCaskill better. I sent her a stern email last week, letting her know I donated twice to her campaign through John Kerry’s emails and let her know I did not appreciate her disparaging remarks against him. I pointed out he raised thousands for her and millions for all Democrats.

  4. I’m grateful to Senator Kerry for his leadership and all his efforts in behalf of the 2006 candidates. He did the legwork and we’re all the recipients of his labors. How very fortunate for us as a nation that he, once again, fought tirelessly for the Democratic Party.

Like you, Sandrakae, I also wrote to the Dems who betrayed Senator Kerry. Claire Mc Caskill was on the list. I’d like to see JK receive a letter of thanks, which could be posted on his web site, or a phone call at the very least.

In any event, as greenbean said, JK is “a winner who lets others steal the spotlight.” He still remains *the winner.*
I’m ready for his next match, and I’ve definitely got his back.

  5. A big thanks to JK from me too!

Thank you sir for working so hard and doing more than anyone to ensure that “we the people” could take back our country from the forces of darkness and evil.

  6. Thanks Kerry for all you hard work. Very much appreciated! :)

  7. Greenbean

Wow — talk about well said. JK is all that, yes he is and we’ve all got his back around here.
