Who’s Behind HeyJohn.org?
by Pamela LeaveyThere’s been a dust up in the blogosphere over the news reported yesterday on Hotline On Call that “yesterday, “a Democratic official not affiliated with the DSCC sent around a website, www.heyjohn.org which takes Kerry to task” on fundraising for the DSCC. Bloggers have weighed in on everything from who’s giving what, to the implication behind the anonymity of HeyJohn.org.
The bottomline is many in the blogosphere think HeyJohn.org is a dirty trick, and folks want to know who’s behind it. Yesterday in my post about the issue, I laid it on the line — “the “grassroots” effort behind HeyJohn.org comes by way of an anonymous website that was registered through Domains by Proxy and has the owner’s information blocked.”
Here’s the upshot of this attempt by some nameless, gutless blogger to attempting “to make JK & company feel guilty” — “the call for Kerry to do more from HeyJohn.org is simply a “chickenshit attack” in my opinion from members of the grassroots who don’t have the courage to put their names behind their claims.”
There’s been plenty of outcry from the blogosphere about this dirty trick, from a diary on DKos calling it a “swiftboating of a different stripe,” to a thread on DU calling out the “chickenshits”, to Jerome Armstrong on MYDD saying the “calling out of John Kerry… is hogwash,” the reaction has been strong, including in the comments on the HeyJohn.org website:

The most chickenshit web site I have seen.

I think whoever is behind this sight should have the balls to use your real name.
Pathetic.

As you can see, the only ones who agree with you are GOPers. I guess they recognize your methods.

I tried to post the source of this website, but guess what–the “moderators” wouldn’t let me.

You know, I’d be willing to bet that whoever is responsible for this “grass roots effort” didn’t donate one thin dime to Kerry in 2004, or in any other year.
Go ahead somebody, TRY to find out who owns this site. You can’t, because he/she/they/it has paid extra to be completely anonymous. How’s that for being a coward eh? Make a big stink about something (getting your facts wrong the whole time) and do it while hiding behind a mask.
BWAAAAK! Bok bok bok.
So, here’s the deal. Whoever is responsible for HeyJohn.org has no business calling out John Kerry out if they don’t even have the conviction of their claims by admitting who they are. Last night my stat counter picked up an IP to my original post on this issue that came directly from the HeyJohn.org Admin. I won’t post the IP, but I will share this, whoever is responsible for HeyJohn.org, whether’s it D.C. insider or a beltway area blogger — I’ve got your number:

We’re in the midst of what very well could be a blowout in the mid-terms. Yeah… we need to hit hard and keep raising buckets of cash — but get real, attacking the one man who has worked his tail off for the party raising buckets of cash, is not the guy to be attacking. HeyJohn.org is a divisive tool that’s driving yet another wedge into the liberal grassroots movement. We’re all on the same team.
Inquiring minds want to know Who’s Behind HeyJohn.org and The Democratic Daily, is calling on the owner of HeyJohn.org to come out and tell us all who you are.
UPDATE: Waving hello to our friends at HeyJohn.org — that’s right, like I said above, I’ve got your number. I see you’re checking in with us again at: 11:27:40 PM on 20th October 2006 — it’s your 3rd recorded visit via our statcounter. It’s appears, someone’s busy checking up on who’s linking to their own little sleeze attack blog.

John Kerry Fighting Longer and Harder Than the Rest and It’s Still Not Enough?
Hotline on Call reports today that there’s an attempt in the blogosphere and with in the Democratic party to get certain Senators to pony up from their war chests for the mid-term elections and the bulk of the cries to pony up are directed towar…
I let them have it, but they had my comment in moderation forever. Bunch of gutless wonders!
Good job on ID’ing this bum Pamela. And it’s good to see your excellent post recognized at johnkerry.com as well.

I wish I could get more on the bum – I’ve been digging and not turning up much more. I saw that there was an honorable mention over at JK.com.
Made my day!
By the way I think I might have goofed again this morning without enough coffee and one of your comments went missing. We shouldn’t let me moderate SPAM when I am sleepy! I think a comment from JohnG went missing too.
Don’t worry, I’ve been kinda ranting lately, it prolly wasn’t anything important.
Well, I *did* give 2K to John Kerry for his last campaign, and he didn’t spend it. I think he finished with $75M in the bank. Now I don’t care about the rest of his political career – I wanted that money spent defeating Bush, and he let me down. I asked for it back and got no reply. The least he can do is pass it on to someone else who needs it to create a Senate majority in the mid-terms. I will not be contributing to JK or probably any candidate next Presidential election, I’ll be spending my money through moveon and others that are focused on what I’m focused on, not someones “career arc”.

Sebb – And you have explicit proof that John Kerry NEVER spent “your” 2K?
