Kerry-Gore 2008

by RonChusid

This Washington Post article raises a thought. It will never happen, but anyone for a Kerry-Gore ticket?

  1. I would definitely support it. I’ve discussed the possibility before – it would make for an excellent ticket.

  2. Beautiful.

  3. I mentioned this once, however some people said that Al wouldn’t play second fiddle again. It should have been Gore/Kerry in 2000. Things would be so different.

  4. I’ve had this question come to mind several times. Because of all the issues that we face, this unique crossroads in the history of man; would the two of them be willing to work something out?

If ever the country and the world needed such depth of experience, breadth of knowledge and the vision and wisdom to face the tough decisions, persuade this country and other citizens of what kinds of actions and sacrifices need to be made for humanity to go on; I can’t think of two more qualified and dedicated individuals. I have no idea if they have been able to work well together before, it seems to me they would.

My sister and I were talking about the Global warming issues last Thursday and she relayed something that I think tends to get lost in the discussions (haven’t seen the movie). Her understanding came from a radio interview with someone who pointed out that destroying the climatic conditions of Earth for humans and many other species will not destroy the planet. It will go on, a lot of species will adapt, and new ones will evolve. Humanity may do them all a favor by wiping itself off the face of the earth.

If we don’t find the leaders and the ways to make the changes, I think more and more people will make the kinds of decisions I hear from my children and their friends. They might adopt children, but don’t plan to have any.

I’ve been fairly consistently thinking that I am not sure the country or the world can make enough changes for the race to survive. I also know it definitely will not happen if we don’t try.

  5. I’d prefer Gore/Kerry ‘08 myself.

  6. Yeah – sounds really good, but I’m with sandrakae, Al’s done sitting in the 2nd chair again – been there, done that.

Gore will either stay with what he’s doing – working on the environment, OR run for the 1st chair, POTUS. If Gore does run, clear the decks – I think he’d win the Dem nomination, which would be fine by me.

Now, if Gore decides not to run, I think JK has an even chance to win the nomination again. Who would he tap as his VP? I would think someone that would help him in either Ohio or Florida. I mean, come on – that’s how close the last presidential election was – Ohio!.

There are these people who run around and complain how JK could lose to such a boob as Bush forget that the Dems didn’t exactly tear it up in the Congressional elections, either. So yes, I give JK an even chance to win the nomination again.

I half heartedly offer Evan Bayh for JK’s VP – a neighbor of Ohio. I’m not sold on the guy. But I wonder if Ohio would be – is he moderate enough for those folks? (Yes, it’s so early to talk about this the sun hasn’t even come up, but it’s fun to talk about.)

  7. how about Gore / Feingold.
At least Feingold has a voice an uses it. MOst of the dems didn’t have the balls to back him up. There ought to be impeachment proceedings going on right now.

  8. Or Kerry/Feingold?

  9. Since we are all dreaming…
How about Kerry/Maxine Walters for Pres/VP
    Gore for SOS
    Wes Clarke for SED
    Elliot Spitzer for AG

  10. I like that or Gore/Kerry.

  11. BlueWashington says

“There are these people who run around and complain how JK could lose to such a boob as Bush forget that the Dems didn’t exactly tear it up in the Congressional elections, either. So yes, I give JK an even chance to win the nomination again.”

totally agreed but…. in fairness to Kerry it should be noted that Democrats gained three House seats outside the South with Kerry at the top of the ticket. Outside the South Dems also gained nonsouthern Senate seats with Kerry at the top of the ticket, i.e. Daschle lost in SD but Obama won in Illinois, and Salazar won in Colo.

Without the Deep South Dems gain Senate seats, without Tom “shakedown” Delay’s “creative” redistricting, Dems pickup House seats.

  12. What we really need in a Presidential candidate is a sure-fire winner. Gore is the canditate of idealists and, despite being a very able and noble candidate, he is (very sadly) damaged goods. As the Rs have so amply demonstrated, idealism does not work in politix. What works is shallowness and a well-recognized name… an Arnold Schwartzenegger or a Ronald Reagan… a personality, not an idealist. For We the People, it is all about bread & circuses. And so I propose… George Clooney. Even though he’s smart, his politix are good, and he probably actually IS an idealist, what counts is that he can charm the People with his actor’s persona and Hollywood glamour. He could actually WIN, despite whatever evil conspiracy the Rs are, as we speak, developing. Perhaps RFK Jr for VP., an important ambassadorship for Gore, or, if he were willing, an important cabinet post.

  13. Sandrakae- my mom said that if Gore had of picked Kerry for VP in 2000 he’d be sitting in the whithouse right now and I have to agree.

I’ll go with JK as first billing on the dem ticket as potus.

As for his VP, my advice:
don’t listen to the media and pudits and consultants and go with what his gut says.
Although if the VP selection could win his/her own state that would help.

  14. Hmmm… Well I don’t know Judith. I think there needs to be a candidate with some backing out there in country. Clooney? Yeah, well I don’t know. (Are you kidding) It took Reagan years to get into position to win the presidency. I want to win now, not 16 years from now.
So baring anything different from here on out, i.e. Gore comes out firing, I think Kerry has a good chance to win the nomination. JK is known nationally – in a positive sort of way, has a large following and came within a whisker of becoming POTUS.
Who can help JK over the top? Conventional wisdom the last time around said John Edwards. Edwards couldn’t even carry his own state. Nice guy buy carries lots of warning signs. Finegold? Again, where’s the support? He’s kinda like Hillary without money – lots of net-root support, no cash. Hillary, lots of cash – suspect net-root support. JK needs someone carry to help him carry critical states, hence my thought of Bayh and Ohio and/or even Indiana.

    Nick,
Yeah – the Dems picked up a few seats, but nothing to scare the crap out of the GOPers. This year though, if the Dems play their cards right, they take the House and have a descent chance of taking the Senate. I won’t be disappointed if only the House falls – the Dems would have to run the table in the Senate to grab it and I realize that(though happy would be the day if the entire Congress fell).

  15. Like you say pen, the VP candidate needs to at least carry their own state.

  16. “MOst of the dems didn’t have the balls to back him up. There ought to be impeachment proceedings going on right now.”

Uh Dave S…first of all Feingold brought up a censure motion, not impeachment. Which he of course cannot do since he’s a Senator and charges for impeachment are drawn up in the House…

Does Bush deserve to be impeached? Well hell yeah, for any one of multiple reasons. Impeachment was made for a President like Bush. But how in any way could you expect there to be impeachment proceedings going on now? Both houses of Congress are controlled by totally partisan Republicans. Sheesh, these Republicans won’t perform even the most minimal amount of oversight of an out of control executive branch!

Please explain how you can blame Democrats for their not being impeachment proceedings going on? Hmmm, let me guess. You’re one of those people who think the best way to help the Democrats take back the country is to spend all your time bashing the Dems?

  17. Dave From Princeton

Me thinks Dave S also missed that Kerry co-sponsored the censure.
