Europeans Evacuating Lebanon, U.S. “Forming Plans” While Bush Does Photo-ops

by Pamela Leavey

The Washington Post reports that the U.S. is “trying to find a way to evacuate” an estimated 25,000 American citizens are who are trapped in war-torn Lebanon, while “Israel, with U.S. support, intends to resist calls for a cease-fire and continue a longer-term strategy of punishing Hezbollah, which is likely to include several weeks of precision bombing in Lebanon, according to senior Israeli and U.S. officials.”

Yesterday, the U.S. State Department said that “it is developing plans to transport Americans from Lebanon to the neighboring island of Cyprus.”

From there, people could board commercial aircraft to safe destinations. But as of last night, no U.S. evacuation plan had been finalized.

Meanwhile, as Americans in Lebanon wait for word on evacuation plans, our fearless leader, George W. Bush, is busy at the G8 Summit partaking in photo-ops like driving an electric cart to dinner and biking the grounds of the G8 Summit…

Could someone please explain to Bush that he needs to get on the stick and get our citizens out of Lebanon? While the U.S. is still without a plan, the Europeans’ are on top of the situation with voluntary evacuations underway for their citizens.

European nations are sending ferries, buses and airplanes to evacuate their citizens. France, a nation with historic ties to Lebanon, has about 17,000 citizens living there. French officials announced plans yesterday to ferry citizens to Cyprus, where Air France aircraft would be waiting to fly them to Paris, according to the Associated Press. The voluntary evacuations are to begin today.

The Israeli’s have blocked the majority of the ways out of Lebanon — scores of missiles have destroyed Beirut’s international airport, bridges, power stations and roads. The ever so helpful U.S. State Department “issued an advisory Friday cautioning Americans in Lebanon to keep a low profile and be cautious when traveling.”

Reuters reports that Italy, Spain and Britain all have evacuation plans in motion.

MSNBC reported Saturday there are “several hundred U.S. residents studying abroad this summer at the American University in Beirut.” One group of students is “holed up in a low floor” in a dormitory, that is not “proper shelter.”

There are no school officials nearby, so the students are running the shelter operations by themselves.

AP is reporting that “Hezbollah and its backers, not the government, now appear in control of Lebanon’s fate.”

It’s astounding the U.S. is sitting on it’s hands and telling Americans in Lebanon to stay put, rather than evacuating them, in the midst of this…

  1. Insanity I say!! What will it take to make this idiot see the folly of his ways?

  2. Can’t we impeach this fucking boob before it’s too late?

  3. With our country still trapped in the grip of this corrupt and incompetent administration, I hate to say it but our people in Lebanon or probably basically on their own. They should seriously attempt to get evacuated with citizens from another country who may have competent or caring leadership. If unable to, then they should try to find safety wherever they can. You can’t depend on the Bush admin, ever. If anything, in the White House they are likely devoting most of their energies trying to figure out how to cover it up or spin to so they don’t end up looking too bad if our citizens end up being killed or injured.

In a week I would not be surprised to hear a senior member of the Bush admin say, “Nobody could have imagined our citizens were in danger there.” or “Nobody could have imagined we had more than a handful of people there”. It is their MO. They never change…

  4. YOu got that right Dave. Look at Pamela’s next post, and you can see Bush’s real priority.

  5. Damn, he’s out partying, driving a golf cart, riding a bike, and once again, we have a “Katrina type occurrence.” Did you ever feel helpless? I do, so I took a break from news, posts, e-mails and viewed the pictorial video Pamela posted 12-11-05 in celebration of JK’s birthday: “It’s Your Life Now”– and I watched for 45 minutes. Although it tugged at my heartstrings, I felt comforted in seeing a dedicated warrior, who I have no doubt whatsoever would be on top of this situation and all else 1,000% Why, oh why??????

Thanks, again, for that great video, Pamela.

  6. Reminds me that we should all see the documentary, Who Killed the Electric Car, and how GW Bush, with his tax breaks for SUVs and announcement of funny funding for the bogus technology, Hydrogen fuel cell, all to kill the car.

Really killed GM, which could have been at the forefront of an alternative energy car. Instead stifling the patent for a large capacity battery, all for the keeping of the status quo of fossil fuels, and tangential industries for those cars.

    Again, smiling while Rome burns.

  7. Since our strong ally Israel is only bombing terrorist Hizbullah bases, Americans should have nothing to fear and need not evacuate.

  8. Kilgore Trout

Thanks for sharing – I doubt that is of much comfort to those Americans in Lebanon who want out of there right now. Ally or not – bombs do miss their targets and the Bush administration has a responsibility to get our citizens out of there.

  9. More of our fearless leader…

How old is this fool and why is he masquerading as our president?

  10. WOW, a whole gaggle of dorks in that cart.

  11. Donnie

    Welcome to dork fest!

  12. That it is Pamela. Someone pull that idiot over and give him a DWI. Drivng While Insane.

  14. Oh come on people…
We all know Bush is looking for the only thing that helps him make decisions; His copy of “My Pet Goat”.
He is asking someone if they took his book. After all…there are only three things in his Presidential library:
    The book MPG,
A Bible with all references to the poor removed (courtesy of Jim Wallis).
    Program listing for Faux News.

  15. Here’s a little more on what Bush was up to at the G8:

    President Bush Strikes From Behind

  16. I told you, he is freaking insane and needs to be put away. I bet Charles Manson is baffled about this. Charlie is a choir boy compared to this inept jackass. I wonder how many convicts across the nation are looking at the GOP and thinking about how they got more for doing less.

  17. Donnie

Oh boy… LOL! No doubt he’s not fit to even be resident.

  18. No critics of the Bush Administration has come forward with advise on how to rescue the innocents in this situation. And I see nothing here but attacks. So typical of you. And to the photos you post here, you have a highly visible president with invited photographers from the media. Those photographers taking thousands of photos – just waiting for the ‘right’ one that shows the president not at his best to feed your frenzy of pathetic comments.

  19. I agree with Charles above. Also, he still IS the right man for the right job. Definately, more qualified than John Kerry who has a history of being weak with regards to our national security. Oh, we all know he was a Vietnam Vet and about his Purple Heart. But that does not qualify him to have been President.

  20. Charles K

The inate ability of Bush to look un-president in so many photographs is absurd.

Posing for the camera and making faces like a child is not the demeanor of a leader.

There were a wealth of photos to choose from, yes you are right, perhaps hundreds, not thousands, most depicting a man acting like a boy instead of a president.

  21. There is a clear difference between “Posing” for a camera and being somewhere, standing or doing whatever and a photographer takes his photo.

You and Charles can agree all you like – fact is Bush is weak on national security and the Republican party uses scare tactics to frighten Americans.

Thank you for sharing — the topic isn’t about John Kerry, and attacks are not welcomed here.

  23. Oh, now that’s funny. President Bush is Weak on National Security? And what scare tactics are you referring to that the Republican Party uses? – oh, do tell!!

  24. Rachel,

One difference between Kerry and Bush (beyond the fact that Kerry served and Vietnam and Bush failed to even complete his National Guard service):

John Kerry wrote a book warning about the risk from terrorism well before 9/11.

George Bush received many warnings about al Qaeda prior to 9/11 and ignored them.

National Security is one of Bush’s greatest weaknesses. His actions have resulted in weakening the US while strengthening al Qaeda and Iran. His inept handling of Korea is also partially responsible for the increased risk there.

One more difference between Kerry and Bush. Kerry recommended many actions to take to increase homeland security during two of the debates in 2004. Bush was unwilling to go along in either debate, claiming it was too expensive.

  25. AAAWWWWWWW!!! Pamela, I didn’t know you had your very own lil parrots. OH look how cute. Mind if I check them out? Brawk–Rachel wanna cracker? WOW and they are fiesty too. Awww look Pamela, they are rubbing feathers together. And by GOD, you actually taught them to blog!! Wow I am impressed!! Must be the runts though.

You reacted Exactly as I anticipated. That is soooo very typical of the bliended Biased Liberal that you are. Rules layed down are only for everyone else. But for you and your mindless drones who do you beackoning – it’s ok.

What? Was my question posed to you (below) too difficult? Couldn’t come up a comeback? Couldn’t explain how your precious John Kerry could have prevented 9-11? Didn’t think so.

Pamela, I see that the rules of Attack are only permitted if it is from one of your little drones. Attacking any who are not lock-step with you. Do they get brownie points for that?

Kerry indeed served in Vietnam. I do not debate that. However, there is quite a bit of debate on the quality of his service, and with his cohorting with the French and turning against country with Jane Fonda.

The status of the national security was set in place long before Bush came into office, and with the Walls of Non-Shared Information that was built up between the CIA, FBI, National and Local Govermnents.

It was quite impossible for those walls to come down during the short time that Pres. Bush had taken office. Given the resistance of the Agengencies Involved. True, there were reports of Terrorists activity, but it never was clear when, where or how! The Airport Security allowed the Box Cutters on board the planes. Not George Bush. The Airlines did not have lock-tight Cockpit doors. George Bush did not open them.

Now explain, if your capable of doing so, how Kerry would have prevented 9-11 in such a brief time in office and how he would have snapped his fingers and taken down the walls between the Agencies.

  35. Donnie

Totally pathetic right wing clone attack!

  36. Pathetic. As Pamela noted, the same person is posting under multiple different names.

Would John Kerry have prevented 9/11? (A better question would actually be Al Gore since that was the alternative as of 2001).

Kerry or Gore would have paid attention to the reports passed on by the Clinton Administration upon taking office which included recommendations for fighting al Qaeda. Bush ignored them. People such as Richard Clarke have documented the inept response from the Bush Administration to the threat.

Gore read the daily intelligence briefings as VP. Bush ignored the ones which warned of threats such as plans of al Qaeda to launch an attack with hijacked planes. Most Presidents would have taken action in response to such a threat.

George Bush did nothing in response to multiple warnings. Any action, whether or not ultimately successful, would have been a sign of a more competent Commander in Chief. There were certainly barriers to action, such as the lack of intra-agency cooperation. It was the job of the President to attempt to resolve these problems. Passing the buck is not leadership.

There is no way to say if this would have been enough to prevent 9/11. I’d place far more trust in people who are willing to take the threat seriously and take action as opposed to someone like Bush who ignored all the warnings and then was unable to respond appropriately once the attacks did occur.

  37. Pamela, you better go get your money back on that parrot. It’s a Tex-Ass parrot with multiple personalities. You done went and got sybil as a pet dammit. I just went run to my office to pick up the paycheck, and POOF!! the lil sucker lost its mind. I know one thing for sure, I’m not gonna clean its cage for you. I like you, but that is where I draw the line ;)

  38. Well, you know about what they say about Californians. Nutt’n there but steers and queers.

  39. “Nutt’n there but steers and queers.”

Nerman, you’re thinking of Texas. That’s okay. At least you tried…

Obviously Nerman was lost, he was looking for the range in Texas…

  41. Appears so, Pamela.

Looks like a sewer overflowed into this thread tonight. They sure do like to repeatedly show off how clueless and stupid they are, don’t they…

  42. I see it as an example of somebody doth protest too much. Exposing how Bush screwed up with regards to terrorism, both before and after 9/11, hit too close to home. The only thing Republicans have left is the misconception that they are “strong on terrorism.” They can’t stand to have that misconception debunked.

  43. There is no misconception Ron. And he didn’t screw up. We are stronger on terrorism than the previous administration. You just choose to ignore it because it deflates your fantacy.

Clinton tried to take action but was blocked by the GOP Congress.

Bush was advised to take action but failed to do so.

Only in the Bizarro World of GOP logic is Bush strong on fighting terrorism.
