Bush Speaks on on Death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi

by Pamela Leavey

Bush spoke in the Rose Garden earlier today on the report that U.S. military forces have “killed the terrorist al Zarqawi.”

Here’s the gist of Bush’s statement: “Zarqawi is dead, but the difficult and necessary mission in Iraq continues”…
“We have tough days ahead of us in Iraq that will require the continued patience of the American people.”

What’s Bush really saying? Stay the Course…

  1. Interrupt the Course: bring our combat troops home by the end of 2006!

  2. Lets not forget that it was the Bush administration that made a “Super Star Terrorist’ out of Zarquawi. They needed a face for the War on Terror in Iraq. Some days he was blamed for everything that happened in Iraq. He was everwhere. Makes one wonder who the new face on Terror in Iraq will be. Any bets he’s an Iranian?

  3. This war will last generations.Islamic terror is a threat to liberalism ,as well as everything else.

  4. Perhaps, but I bet the war will last far longer if Republicans remain in power, or at least as long as they feel they benefit from it politically.

So far Bush has done far more to help al Qaeda recruitment than to fight them.

  5. Anyone wonder, with the knowledge of where he was and the fact that alive he’d be such a valuable intelligence source, why did they bomb him and not try capture him alive?

  6. Les,

Maybe. I also question how much information they’d get from him, and fear that going after him with anything less than all out deadly force would increase the chances of him getting away.

I also wonder if there might not be safer to having such high profile people dead than in a prison somewhere. If they were prisoners I could see followers doing things like taking more hostages to try to get a relase. Instead their followers are happy that al Zarqawi. is a martyr and having a great time with all those virgins.

  7. Les,
Our strategy in Iraq is still flawed. We could have captured if we had mobile troops when he was located. We don’t because our soldiers are trying to survive their own personel hells.

It is time for a few more bin Laden videos.

  8. battlebob,
Just thought I’d throw some thought’s out cause I don’t take anything this administration does at face value.
You’re right though. Our troops are trying to survive their own personel hells for their second and third forced tours. Nam we had one year tours. This administration is abusing the hell out of these boys. It’s criminal!
