Hey Nagourney, Why Write?
by Pamela LeaveyAdam Nagourney to crown prince of piss poor reporting, is at it again in today’s NY Times. Today, Nagourney opines in his latest article lacking journalistic integrity, “Hey Democratc, Why Win?”
As strange as it might seem, there are moments when losing is winning in politics. Even as Democrats are doing everything they can to win, and believe that victory is critical for future battles over real issues, some of the party’s leading figures are also speculating that November could represent one of those moments.
From this perspective, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world politically to watch the Republicans struggle through the last two years of the Bush presidency. There’s the prospect of continued conflict in Iraq, high gas prices, corruption investigations, Republican infighting and a gridlocked Congress. Democrats would have a better chance of winning the presidency in 2008, by this reasoning, and for the future they enhance their stature at a time when Republicans are faltering.
Reading this I have to question what the heck is Nagourney on? It’s been clear for a long time that Nagourney rarely pens a flattering word about Democrats, but come on Adam, do you really want to “struggle” through 2 more years of failed policies and no checks and balances? Don’t answer, from the tone of your article it appears that either you do or you just simply get a rise out of writing absurd and baseless things about Democrats. After reading this latest piece from Adam, I just simply have to ask — Hey Nagourney, Why Write?

He actually wrote the same poor advice in another column a month or two ago. He argued that if Republicans remain in complete control of all three branches of government it will be easier to blame them for everything in 2008.
One major flaw in this is that this more than a game. The goal is not simply to place Democrats in the best chance to win in 2008 but to attempt to decrease the harm done to the country by GOP rule.
Even if we look at this purely in terms of politics, there is no saying how things will be politically in 2008. You have to take advantage of chances of winning when you get them. Plus, it is possible that having the chance to investigate Bush will open more eyes and increase chances for futher victories in 2008.

There’s a lot of flawed logic from Nagourney. What I find interesting is that he interjects his views so frequently in his articles which aren’t really columns. Whatever happened to plain old reporting the news?
