Another Poll, Another New Low

by RonChusid

The USA TODAY/Gallup Poll has Bush’s approval at a new low of 31%. This also represents a drop of 3% in the last week alone.

In the current poll, 52% of conservatives and 68% of Republicans approved of his job performance–new lows for both groups. Moderates gave him an approval rating of 28% and liberals were at 7%.

  1. It just keeps getting better and better. Just how low can he go? I’m willing to bet he sets a new record before it’s all said and done.

  2. When does it influence the everyday American to beg, plead, and demand a change? 28? 25? 20? He is definitely surviving due to the power of his party in all branches of government. This is ridiculous…no accountability…RIDICULOUS!

  3. There is an excellent chance Bush will set new lows. Normally if a President in their first term has falling approval of this degree they will not get reelected, limiting their fall in the approval ratings.

The closest example we have of a second term President, Richard Nixon, was ultimately forced to resign, also limiting how far he could fall.

As it is unlikely Bush will ever be removed from office (considering how hard it would be to get a Senate willing to convict him) he can continue to fall until January 2009. Of course if he falls low enough perhaps even Senate Republican would be willing to throw him out.

  4. Fox News had Dumbya’s poll numbers increasing from 33 to 38? Who are they talking to get this feedback?

  11. The fact that the Republican Party can win a national election with a candidate as weak as George W ought to raise some red flags. As a party, we have ignored our brand and have instead relied on charismatic candidates in order to win.

We need to rethink our brand and invest in it. We often tell our clients that if they do cannot command (for their products or services) greater preference or higher margins than their competitors, they do not have a brand — they have a business.

If we had a brand, a REAL Democratic BRAND, we could win elections (as the Republicans do) when we have a lesser candidate than former President Clinton. It would be nice if we treated our brand with half the attention P&G gives to disposable diapers.

  12. Tom,

Yes Bush was personally a weak candidate, but the advantages of being an incumbent, especially during war time, out weighed his weaknesses.

Plus, which sort of goes along with your comments on a Democratic Brand, is that we weren’t just running against George Bush. We were running against the Republican brand and the Republican noise machine. Plug virtually any individual Republican in and the campaign would be very similar.

  13. My point exactly. However, even lacking a strong brand, a charismatic candidate (read Bill Clinton) can defeat an incumbent (read Bush 1). Imagine how successful the Party could be if our brand allowed us to run and win will less then a cult of personality.

Watch how we squander this next Presidential election by nominating a candidate — qualified but without charisma (read Senator Clinton).

But, its not just a Republican noise machine — it is a Republican brand (www.stealingshare.com/content/1148388884015.htm) and we need to FIX ours.
