Manic Monday’s Gas Price Mania

Have no fear — Bush has ordered a probe into gas prices. That’s right the addict-in-chief is concerned that his pals the oil barrons could be PRICE GOUGING, so he’s going to give another phony pep talk tomorrow about how the problem “cannot be solved overnight.” Scottie “the puppet” McClellan said today that Bush “will talk about how experts predict that the price is expected to increase this summer and how the switch to a summer fuel mix is contributing to the problem.”

Bush’s actions are part of a four-part plan to address gas prices in the short- and long-term, McClellan said. The steps McClellan outlined are: making sure consumers and taxpayers are treated fairly; promoting greater fuel efficiency; boosting gasoline supply at home; and aggressively investing in alternative fuels on a long-term basis.

Republicans are scrambling for answers on the rising gas prices. They’ve even dipped into their bag of tricks and pulled out this sorry old meme, “oil prices would be lower had Democrats not blocked plans to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.”

Harry Reid said a probe in soaring gas prices wasn’t enough today and called for a” debate on a windfall tax.”

If the greedy oil companies won’t invest their billions in profit in delivering affordable (gas), then maybe America needs to take some of those windfall profits and put them to better use,” he said.

USA Today reports:

Regular unleaded gasoline has soared 42 cents a gallon over the last month and the latest national price is up 68 cents from a year ago, based on the federal Energy Information Administration’s weekly survey of service stations.

In the EIA’s latest survey, the West Coast had the most expensive regional gasoline, with the price up 16.6 cents at $3.01 a gallon. San Francisco topped the survey of cities, with gasoline up 20.1 cents at $3.10 a gallon.

The Rocky Mountain states had the cheapest gasoline at $2.71 a gallon, up 14.5 cents. Among major cities, Denver had the best deal at the pump at $2.82, up 12 cents.

The EIA report also showed prices, rounded to the nearest penny, up 16 cents at $3.08 in Los Angeles; up 8.6 cents at $2.99 in Miami; up 18.9 cents at $2.98 in New York City; up 11.6 cents at $2.97 in Chicago; up 13.4 cents at $2.90 in Seattle; up 10 cents at $2.89 in Houston; up 17.8 cents at $2.88 in Boston; and up 9.7 cents at $2.87 in Cleveland.

  1. Gee, I’m running on fumes. And now I find out Denver has the best gas prices in the country….

Thanks dick, george, rummy, condi, and the whole crime family

  2. RIDICULOUS! I was just listening to Mike Malloy’s show & he mentioned that this gas issue seems to be the one drawing more concern among Americans. Instead of the war & other scandals…this one is hitting Americans most directly. Still seems ashame that the welfare of the soldiers isn’t viewed as high on the list of priorities in “everyday” America…Malloy mentioned the fact that we are kept so removed from the “real-life” story of the soldiers. We have been given only stats on the injured or killed leaving us more removed and less personally involved (unless of course you have a family member or friend involved).

  3. DAS,

And then Harry Reid comes out today with the comment that the Senate needs to be addressing this rather than the Marriage Protection proposal.

Right ballpark, sir, but not on the mound.

Past time to get our soldiers out of danger.
