By Jupiter! We’re Influential
by RonChusid April 18th, 2006 @ 10:52 pm
The Guardian reports on a study by Jupiter Research, a technology research company, which found that bloggers exert “disproportionately large influence” on society.
Of course we will continue to use our powers for good. While those nasty right wing bloggers use their power to spread misinformation, such as that Saddam had WMD and ties to al Qaeda, we will use our powers to fight for truth, justice, and the American way.

Excellent news. Thank you, kindly, Ron, our dutiful roving reporter.
Hi T
Ron’s all over the map!
Confirms the report on MoveOn from ‘04. The studies describe certain people as “influentials”. (Also referred to in the Guardian article) The people who tend to be a source of information within their circle. They influence decisons about buying cars, where to vacation, and who to vote for. The study estimated about 10% of the population fall into this group. Of the bloggers studied, 69% were influentials. They called them Online Political Citizens (OPC) and described them as:
“A new community of citizens online [are] defining the 2004 presidential campaign. These citizens are Internet-oriented and politically energized, and they support their candidates by visiting their Web sites, joining Internet
discussion groups, reading political Web logs and making political contributions over the Internet.”
What I think is cool about this: the influentials have a place to get together and share information and ideas.
In the age of information we have the internet to go chase down all kinds of data and ideas. Then we can share them on the blog of interested OPCs. And take back to our own circle even more information than we would have from reading newspapers, books and watching TV. It sort of synergizes the whole process.
Funny, Ron’s closing there brought Christopher Reeve to mind. And then Teresa’s comment about a roving reporter.
Here’s hoping we can make it an astronomically large influence, by Jupiter!
Yes, yes, by Jove!!
Always thought you were Superman.
