Bush vs. Republican Congress

by RonChusid

There’s an interesting pair of articles in two of the country’s major newspapers. The New York Times writes that Congress is no longer following Bush. “After more than five years of allowing President Bush relatively free rein to set their course, Republicans in Congress are suddenly, if selectively, in rebellion, a mutiny all the more surprising since it centers on the party’s signature issue of national security.”

Bush will show them. The Washington Post reports that Bush is trying to shift the blame for his incompetence in handling Katrina on Congress. “President Bush, on a Gulf Coast inspection tour that included his first visit to this city’s storm-shattered Lower Ninth Ward, bluntly accused Congress on Wednesday of underfunding the repairs and called for speedy action to make good on federal commitments.”

That’s fine. The more the Republicans attack each other, the better the chances of getting rid of them. We’ve often looked at how Bush has forgotten the principles of Ronald Reagan and other conservatives. It looks like he’s also forgotten Reagan’s eleventh commandment.

  1. If bush has forgotten the lessons of Reagan then the GOP forgot Lincoln’s advise:
“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power” (Abraham Lincoln)

They gave Bush power over them and he along with rove and chenney have pistol whipped the GOP congress ever since. Suckers!! I knew bush was no good from day one. What was the GOP excuse?

  2. Funny how The WaPo story is so much like many others about the visit today. My local paper had a lil more on it. Like the women the motorcade passed by with the “Where’s My Government?” sign and the other woman that gave the “Thumbs Down” sign.

  3. Donnie- I don’t want any of you to get in trouble but it would have been sweet to see you all kick his butt back to crawford.

They say this had been planned for months but that’s hogwash. After that tape came out where he was looking like a 5 year-old telling LA officials the government would do everything to help and his government with the exception of the coast guard didn’t do @hit Rove put him on air force one quick.

It was an insult to see him with his sleeves rolled up and a hard hat on like he was doing something. Kerry was right on when he said the folks in the gulf don’t need another photo-op from him.

  4. I am impatiently awaiting the emergence of a great LEADER who will oversee the banishment of every single fascist Republican swine who, with endlessly repeated lies and propaganda and needless deaths of thousands, has stained the honor of America.

Weston La Barre in 1970 said in “The Ghost Dance” that charismatic leaders are those who come to resolve acute stress situations in the culture.

“A society’s culture is a set of defense mechanisms, both technological and psychological. If technical means fail to protect the people against anxiety and stress, then psychological means must be fabricated to maintain homeostatis [or balance].”

In other words, right now America is in deep shit. The fascist swine are destroying the country, and we sit helplessly in numbed shock. Some of us write hysterical posts to liberal blogs. Some of us call our congressmen, or join email or fax campaigns.

But what we need the most is to find a true leader. Who is he?

    Or she?

  5. How’s this for funny. I just went back to get the link on the local story, and the thing has been rewritten and the part about the “Thumbs Down” has been replaced with a man and his sign!

The media would have to allow a leader, and Democrats would have to follow a leader.

Kerry has/had the stuff, the words; there are others.

The GOP are in control of systems hard to get past, and take down. We have our work cut for us, and can’t afford to wait for a magical moment.

  7. There are times when the mob (the fed up masses) have to do it themselves.

Looking for a leader today is about as useful as looking for a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Leaders emerge but there are very, very few who are sincere in helping people most just want to help themselves (the clintons).

We can’t wait for anyone to walk us to the promise land we have to start on our own and maybe some of the so called leaders will catch up with us.
