Kerry Responds To Right Wing Attacks
by RonChusidKerry’s office is fighting back against the distortions of Kerry’s statements in his Face the Nation interview. Kerry spokesman David Wade said the following on CNN today:
“Ken Mehlman’s filthy and shameful lie about a decorated combat veteran is disgraceful. Political hack Ken Mehlman and draft dodging, donut eating Rush Limbaugh have something in common. Neither of them know anything about how to make American troops safe. John Kerry will continue to speak out about how to succeed in Iraq and protect brave American troops.”
In addition to distorting Kerry’s position on succeeding in Iraq, the right wing noise machine has been distorting this statement from the Face the Nation interview:
“You’ve got to begin to transfer authority to the Iraqis. And there is no reason, Bob, that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children, you know, women, breaking sort of the customs of the–of–the historical customs, religious customs.”
As anyone who has any understanding of the English language would realize, saying it would be terrorizing to kids to have American soldiers come into their home at night is both true and in no way calling the soldiers terrorists. “Terrorizing” and “terrorists” are very similar words, but do not necessarily mean the same thing. The context makes the distinction quite clear.
Either these right wingers are unable to read and understand a simple sentence or they are liars. Perhaps both.
Update: Some of the right wing sites are comparing this statement to Kerry’s Vietnam testimony. There is a connection here. They are continuing to lie about what Kerry said back then just as they are lying about what Kerry said this week. If they hate Kerry so much you would think they would come up with something Kerry really said to attack him for rather than continuing to make up stuff to attack him for.

I just checked out the Daou Report response on this yesterday. Long time readers here will get a kick out of the comments.
Fritz is there.
I can’t be sure it is the Fritz who used to post comments here, but it is the same sort of nutty thing we’d expect from Fritz when in a Democrat-bashing mood.
Glad to see JK respond to attacks. They have to keep it up. maybe use some of what Pamela wrote on how the tactic is not heping the situation. Also, I see JK will be on Imus Friday.
I dont think people are going to want to keep fighting with this guy. John Kerry has taken the gloves off and they are staying off. Great job Jk Give them hell!
It is difficult to respond to this type of attack during a Presidential campaign since this would lead to the attacks and responses totally drowning any discussion of issues (not that this didn’t happen in 2004).
The next couple of years is a far better time to take on the right wing noise machine so that hopefully by the time of the 2008 race they are discredited and the campaign will be more on issues and less on this type of attack.
I second the give them hell advise. O’neill is back is he. I knew it wouldn’t be long. I bet rove is backing him this time like they did the last round. Well Kerry is going to have to bloody these guys up good even though they are vets. Their disgraceful conduct in 04 gives no room for mercy. I still say take them to court and pound them on the airwaves. Don’t take any statements back and for god sakes don’t listen to mccain and bill clinton. It’s kerry’s turn in this war and he has to take these guys down once and for all. SHow them no mercy. MErcy is for the lord to dish out, payback is for us wronged humans to dish out.
