In just a short couple of weeks, John Kerry and his staff will “bid farewell to Setti Warren, the deputy director of his Massachusetts office.” Warren is headed to Iraq, is “leaving to spend the next year in Iraq as a Navy intelligence officer.”
Peter Gelzinis reports in the Boston Herald and catches perfectly the [...]

John Kerry says all there is to say and then some, about Bush’s plan to veto the SCHIP bill…
Four days from now, a wildly successful effort to provide healthcare to 6 million low-income children will disappear.
This summer, in a rare moment of bipartisanship, Democrats and Republicans in Congress came together to expand the State [...]

In his column today, David Brooks aims for the netroots while holding up the argument that the voters who fall in more of a centrist position hold the key to the ‘08 election. Among Brook’s claims is this one which is sure to piss off the netroots:
The fact is, many Democratic politicians privately detest [...]

The editorial and opinion pages are buzzing on Bush’s speech last night. The N.Y. Times weighs in with a piece titled: “No Exit, No Strategy.”
This was the week in which Americans hoped they would get straight talk and clear thinking on Iraq. What they got was two exhausting days of Congressional testimony by the American [...]

In his weekly radio address on Saturday, Bush touted his surprise trip to Iraq on Labor Day, where “he met with Iraqi leaders and local sheiks who have joined U.S.-led coalition forces in fighting al Qaeda.”
“Together we have driven al Qaeda out of strongholds in Anbar,” Bush said. “The level of violence is down. Local [...]

An editorial in the N.Y. Times nails Bush on his latest photo op in Iraq on Labor Day. “Despite all Mr. Bush’s cheerleading,” the new report by the GAO’s “nonpartisan Congressional investigators tells a much grimmer and closer to reality tale, concluding that the Iraqi government has failed to meet 11 of 18 military and [...]

From Monday’s news…. The WaPo brings us: As Democracy Push Falters, Bush Feels Like a ‘Dissident’.
Two and a half years after Bush pledged in his second inaugural address to spread democracy around the world, the grand project has bogged down in a bureaucratic and geopolitical morass, in the view of many activists, officials and [...]

I’ve avoided writing about the various assaults from journalists on liberal bloggers and the blogosphere, but alas, this latest is quite a rant. Michael Skube obviously got himself in a tizzy with his pants bunched up in a wad and thinks that “most bloggers are doing all this on the side” and that they are [...]

The battle over SCHIP was in the news on Monday with Paul Krugman noting that “denying basic health care to children whose parents lack the means to pay for it, simply because you’re afraid that success in insuring children might put big government in a good light, is just morally wrong.”
And the public understands that. [...]

The N.Y. Times editorial board is calling for the impeachment of Alberto Gonzales. It sounds like a damn fine idea to me…
President Bush often insists he has to be the decider — ignoring Congress and the public when it comes to the tough matters on war, terrorism and torture, even deciding whether an ordinary [...]

The Clinton campaign sent out a fundraising email today that focused on WaPo fashion writer, Robin Givhan’s piece on Hillary Clinton’s cleavage last week. The fundraising email is causing a stir and Howard Kurtz and Anne E. Kornblut have come to Givhan’s defense in a post on the WaPo’s The Trail blog.
I didn’t [...]

The WaPo’s editorial board today that it time for Alberto Gonzales to go. In their editorial today citing yesterday’s tragic testimony of Gonzales before Congress, the WaPo said, “SOMETHING IS terribly, terribly wrong when the attorney general of the United States is called to testify under oath before Congress and much of the hearing [...]

Vacation? What’s that? Here in America, we’re in the “land of the overworked and tired,” and sadly, as Ezra Klein reports in an OP/ED in the Sunday L.A. Times:
THE MOST astonishing revelations in Michael Moore’s “Sicko” have nothing to do with healthcare. They’re about vacation time. French vacation time, to be precise.
Yes, it’s true, [...]

Any one who got the point that Hart was making here with his piece on Ted Nugent that was largely misinterpretated and taken out of context by first World Net Daily and then Hannity, got that the hate speak from the right wing is driving many to distraction and frustration and we must do something [...]

Yesterday’s Bill Moyers Journal was on the subject of Impeachment. It’s a hot topic these days, as Moyers notes, one that more and more people are talking about: “It’s in the air and on your computer screen, a growing clamor aimed at both President Bush and Vice-President Cheney.” Impeachment is also “…the word feared and loathed [...]
